Senior Network Engineer

Overview
The Senior Network Engineer will be responsible for overseeing the design, installation, configuration and maintenance of large-scale cloud network infrastructure. Responsibilities will also include assisting in the maintenance of existing network infrastructure in multiple Data centers.

Primary Responsibilities 

  • Install, support and maintain hardware and software infrastructure according to best practices, including firewalls, monitoring devices, etc.
  • Perform network security design and integration.
  • Diagnose problems and solve issues, often under time constraints.
  • Provide network and host based security, incident response, firewall and VPN management and administration.
  • Implement the necessary controls and procedures to protect information systems assets from intentional or inadvertent modification, disclosure, or destruction.
  • Assist in the development of guidelines and procedures for administration and security best practices.
  • Provide network documentation. 
  • Monitor network usage, anticipate problems and suggest solutions. 
  • Manage projects and maintenance tasks in Jira / Ticket Tracker (ticketing system).
  • Work closely with colleagues to meet team goals and improve processes and practices. 
  • Remain current on emerging technologies via professional groups, trade magazines, internal and external training, independent research and study, and other avenues available. 
  • Perform other tasks as requested by the Network Manager.

Primary Requirements

  • B.A. or B.S. in a technical field or a relevant combination of education and experience. 
  • 5+ years of expertise in implementing, administering, and troubleshooting network infrastructure devices, including: firewalls, IDS systems, VPN, and monitoring applications. 
  • Expert understanding of firewall configuration and maintenance, experience with Palo Alto, Cisco ASA, and Brocade Vyatta equipment preferred. 
  • Familiar with configuration, installation, troubleshooting, and supporting of Network security and IDS equipment.
  • Experience in both Linux and Windows networking stacks and typical web stack deployments are requirements.
  • Experience with Web load balancing systems both proprietary ( ie BigIP) as well as open source (ie HAPROXY, NGINX)
  • Experience provisioning networking components in public cloud environments. Specifically: AWS and Azure
  • Huge plus with Experience on software defined networking under linux. Especially Calico under Docker.
  • Comfortable documenting and explaining network topologies, understand and diagram existing network ,diagram, explain and plan for future growth.
  • Expert with VLANs, VxLANS and working within industry best practices.
  • Ability to engineer, build, and test networks for optimum throughput and reliability. 
  • Knowledgeable in application transport and network infrastructure protocols (SSL/TLS, DNS, DHCP, WINS, NTP, FTP, HTTP, SMTP, CIFS, LDAP, and Microsoft AD), and possess an understanding of how to support these applications / protocols when accessed through VPN and firewall appliances. 
  • Understanding and implementation of network traffic analysis, remote access methods and systems, stateful inspection firewalls, encryption, authentication and authorization technology. 
  • Hands-on technical experience working with VPN technologies (IPSEC, SSL VPN, WebVPN, AnyConnect, DMVPN, etc.). 
  • Willingness to mentor more junior staff members and interns. 
  • Experience in a fast-paced support environment in a cloud network as a member of a 24x7x365 network and/or security operations team. 
  • Ability to quickly learn new or unfamiliar technologies and products, independently using documentation and online resources. 
  • Strong oral, written, communications, and presentation skills.
